About the Founder of Backyard Beginnings

Hi, I’m Heather.

My love for gardening started in my grandma’s garden as a child, where I spent countless hours helping her plant, water, and harvest. Those memories sparked a lifelong appreciation for growing and nurturing the land.

Now, I’m starting my own homestead journey, embracing the joys and challenges of living a more self-sufficient and natural lifestyle. I’m diving deeper into gardening, learning the art of baking, and exploring new skills like canning, soap-making, and creating homemade body scrubs.

Through this blog, I’ll share my progress, lessons, and discoveries as I grow my homestead and build a life centered on simplicity, sustainability, and creativity. Whether you’re just starting or years into your own journey, I’d love to connect, learn, and grow alongside you!

Why Sustainability Matters

As someone who cares deeply about how things are made, I choose ingredients and materials that align with a low-waste lifestyle.
My jams are made from organic fruit sourced at Minnesota farmers markets and Whole Foods, and I package them in classic Ball mason jars—perfect for reuse in your own kitchen.
My cold-process soaps are wrapped in kraft paper while I explore new eco-friendly packaging options. I believe in growing sustainably, and I appreciate your support as I continue improving every step.
